Tour itinerary

Day 1-2

The capital, Antananarivo, High city, Rova palace

We arrive in the capital, the city of Antananarivo, and begin our group trip to Madagascar. We check into a hotel and go for dinner to begin our acquaintance with Malagasy cuisine. We advise you to try the traditional romazawa dish - this is soft boiled beef, which is served with vegetable stew, and ravitoto - a side dish for pork meat from cassava leaves, spinach and coconut milk. Food in Madagascar is as diverse as the local nature and inhabitants. Seafood is consumed on the coasts, and in the center of the island they eat the meat of a local humpback bull, zebu. We will try everything!

The next morning we take off to explore the city, walking through the High city - an area located on the hill of Analamanga. Here we will see the colonial architecture and churches that the French colonialists built. At the top of the hill we will visit the Rova palace, the buildings of which have been built for several generations of Madagascar rulers since the 17th century. It offers a wonderful view of the Madagascar capital and the villages with their small one-story houses, lakes, and rice fields extending beyond the horizon.

Day 3-3

Peyrieras Reptile Reserve, Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, Lemurs of the Vakona park

In the morning we leave for the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park (about 4 hours on the way) where we will continue our guided tour to Madagascar. We will stop at the Peyrieras Reptile Reserve, founded by a French biologist who studied the nature of the island for fifty years. Chameleons, iguanas, geckos, frogs, butterflies all live in large enclosures here, and we will enter them. In the evening we reach the national park, check into the houses on its outskirts, arm ourselves with flashlights and head for a walk through the night forest. We will see mouse lemurs - the smallest primates on the planet.

Day 4-6

Andranocoditra fishing village, Lake Ampitabe, Long-fingered aye-aye lemur, Palmarium Reserve

In the morning we wake up to the loud voices of the Indri lemurs, also known as singing lemurs. After breakfast, we go for a walk in the park to see them closer.

After the dinner we continue our tour to Madagascar, drive part of the way off-road, and arrive at the shore of Lake Rasoabe. There we will transfer to a boat and sail north along the Pangalan canal (about an hour). It was build the French at the end of the XIX century. This is a huge system of artificial canals that connects natural lakes and rivers and stretches along the entire east coast for 650 kilometers! We reach our houses in the middle of a rainforest on the shore of Lake Ampitabe.

The next day, we will take two walks through the forest: one during the day and one at night. During the latter, we will see the Madagascar aye-aye - a long-fingered lemur. This is a unique animal, even for a place like Madagascar. Having seen dozens of exotic countries, British naturalist Gerald Durrell wrote that this is one of the most incredible creatures that he had to meet.

In the afternoon we will swim in the lake and take a boat to its opposite shore to the fishing village of Andranokoditra, which is located on the narrow isthmus between Ampitaba and the majestic Indian Ocean. In the morning we will head back to Antananarivo and spend the night in the capital.
