Day 1-2

Hanoi, The oldest Buddhist stipa, Railway street

We arrive in Hanoi, and begin our group trip to Vietnam by checking into a hotel in the old part of the city. We have come to a chaotic, colorful megalopolis, unlike any other city you have seen. Chinese influence here mixes with French heritage, and dynamic areas of crazy traffic coexist with quiet old quarters.

We discover the historic part of the city, admiring authentic houses that are several hundred years old. We learn more about the French colonial history of Vietnam and visit the Cathedral of St. Joseph - the oldest in the city, built in the style of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in 1886.

Discovering the famous local cuisine should begin with coffee! Did you know that Vietnam is the second biggest coffee exporter in the world? The Vietnamese prepare this drink in a very unusual way - they add a chicken egg to it. The whole process will be demonstrated to us by a street master. It will be very tasty and you will definitely want to repeat it at home! Also, be sure to try the traditional Vietnamese pho soup - with rice noodles, beef, bean sprouts, greens and lime.

We will also walk along the so-called railway street, where the train runs right through the courtyards of houses! In the evening, we will explore the oldest Buddhist pagoda of the country - The Tran Quoc Pagoda, which was built in the 6th century, and enjoy sunset on the shore of the huge West Lake, where locals like to relax.

Day 3

Catcat village, Culture of the Hmong people, Traditional hot pot dish

Out guided tour to Vietnam takes us to Sapa (6 hours by bus). After checking into a hotel we head to the nearby Catcat village. Have you ever seen the views more stunning, than those rice terraces around us?! What a bright green color and mazy serpentines! And how about the picturesque waterfalls? Happy people are those, who live surrounded by such beauty! Known as the Hmong people, they still occupy traditional wooden huts under the roof of straw or wood and grow rice and vegetables.

The Hmongs are most famous for their bright national clothes with hand embroidery. We will admire their colorful clothes and will be able to buy unique traditional scarves, skirts and bags. And they cook excellent food! We will try one of the best hot pots of the country. This dish is a big pot of soup with meat, vegetables, noodles, soy sprouts and greens. The boiling pot is placed on a small fire right on the table, and each participant of the meal gets everything he wants from his soup into his bowl.

Day 4-5

Cable car to Fansipan mount, New Year in Hmong village, Rice terraces

If the weather permits, we will take a cable car to the top of the highest point of Indochina - Mount Fansipan 3143 meters above sea level. Enjoy the views of the slopes covered with dense forests and the bright green canvases of rice terraces. Slowly, the views disappear into the clouds. It was warm and sunny below, but up here we entered the world of cool clouds and fog.

On the New Year eve we will enjoy dinner on the terrace with lovely views of the mountains, and then head to the Hmong village for celebration on the main square.

We will also explore the neighborhood, visiting mountain villages. They are very close to each other, but you will notice, that they are very different because of the different ethnical groups living there. Each adhere to their own traditions and even build different houses. But what unites them all is the love of national dress! They dress their best every day, even if all they have to do all day is to work the fields. On our last day here, we take a bus to Hanoi (about 6 hours on the way) and check into a hotel.

Is this trip for you?

This trip is of easy physical grade. It includes two short domestic flights and a few short journeys by bus. We will also walk in the cities and villages. One day and one night we will spend on board a cruise ship in Halong Bay. Accommodation in double/twin rooms in tourist class hotels. All will have hot water and wi fi internet.
