Tour itinerary

Day 1-2

Cairo, The Sphinx, The Cheops pyramid, Egyptian museum

We arrive in Cairo and check into a hotel. Let`s have a rest so that the next morning we are ready to visit the Egyptian Museum. It hosts a huge collection of sarcophagi, mummies, jewellery, and household items that the ancient Egyptians placed in the pyramids for their rulers' afterlife.

Afternoon we head to the western outskirts of the city, known for the pyramids of Giza. Just imagine  tens of thousands of people built these giant tombs more than four thousand years ago! This is the only Wonder of the Ancient World that has survived to our time.

The famous Sphinx sits right here! We will walk around it to admire the giant creature from all sides and enter the Great Pyramid of Giza which served as the tomb of pharaoh Khufu.

We spend a night in Cairo.

Day 3

Cairo, Khan al-Khalili bazaar, Church of St. Mary, Cathedral of Simeon the Tanner

Pyramids aside, but a lot of interesting things have happened in Cairo over the past four thousand years! In the morning we begin our walk in the center, where exquisite mosques and fountains coexist with chaotic buildings and no less chaotic street traffic.

We walk through the narrow streets of Khan al-Khalili, one of the largest bazaars in Africa. Known for its colorful shops it is at least six hundred years old. You probably can find anything here!

Next, we visit the third century “hanging” Church of St. Mary, which towers over the ruins of an ancient fortress. Take a look at the modern Cathedral of Simeon the Tanner, built in a cave on the outskirts of the Christian district. Inhabitants of there area have been collecting garbage in the Egyptian capital for generations. Both churches belong to Coptic Christians, who make up almost a tenth of the population of Egypt. Here we will learn how their beliefs differ from other branches of Christianity.

In the evening we take a train to Alexandria (2.5 hours on the way) where we spend the night in the hotel.

Day 4

Alexandria, Kite Bay fortress, Kom El Shoqafa catacombs, Fresh seafood

We are in Alexandria, the legendary city founded by Alexander the Great!

Let`s walk along the downtown and the promenade, breathing in the special Mediterranean charm and enjoying delicious fresh seafood.

We explore the Kite Bay fortress, built in the 15th century. It is believed that this place was built on the spot where the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, stood before. We descend underground into the catacombs of Kom-esh-Shukaf. You immediately notice that the Egyptian style here mixes with Greek and Roman. Built in the 2nd century, the burial complex is considered the last large-scale Religious construction of Ancient Egypt.

In the evening we return to Cairo by train (3 hours on the way) and spend the night at the hotel.
