We arrive in the capital - Delhi and check into a hotel in the Pahar Ganj district. We are in the heart of old Delhi. Here, the wide streets are intertwined with narrow alleys, masala tea and spicy nuts are still sold outside of hundreds years old cinemas and rickshaws compete with expensive cars.
We walk in these streets, observing the life around us, to the oldest Muslim cafes in the city. Tourists have no idea about this place. And here we will enjoy the most delicious Afghan-style chicken in the city and bread from a clay oven.
We head to New Delhi to see the symbol of the country - the India Gate and walk in the Lodi Gardens. This is the favorite place of Delhi lovers. Also, it boasts the impressive tombs of the rulers of the 15th century!
In the morning we go out to explore the most famous sights of old Delhi. We start with a walk through the Red Fort. This grand fortress was the main residence of the rulers of the Mughal Empire until 1856! And it was built by the fifth ruler of this super power - Shah Jahan, the one who erected the famous Taj Mahal mausoleum in his old capital - Agra.
We exit the fort and find ourselves in the middle of the main, and the oldest Delhi bazaar - Chandni Chowk. The most important thing here is not only to observe bright goods and colorful vendors, but also to mind your feet. We reach the main mosque of India - Jama Masjid. Built in the 17th century, it accommodates up to 25 thousand visitors. And the main square in front of the mosque offers an unforgettable view of old Delhi.
We go to New Delhi to visit the famous Lotus temple. Built in 1986 in the form of a lotus flower, it is considered a house of prayer for believers of all religions.
Next - the colorful Hindu temple of Kalka-ji, dedicated to the most warlike Indian goddess, Kali. In the evening, we visit the light show in the Old Fortress to learn more about the history of the Indian capital.
Day 3 - 4
Morning train to Jaipur (3 hours on the way). We check into the hotel in the Hathroi area. Acquaintance with these places we begin with the grand fort Amer, which is located on a hill on the shore of the lake. We walk along the marble palaces inside the fortress, get lost in the narrow passages between the arches and different levels of the fortress. And the views from here are just stunning!...
We descend to the town of Amer and walk along the narrow streets, bumping into quiet temples and ancient stepwells. There are no tourists here. Only serenity and authentic Indian everyday life. We head to Fort Jaigarh. It is connected with the Amer fort by an underground passage, which was dug to ensure the escape of the Rajah and his family in the event of the capture of the fortress by the enemy.
We return to Jaipur and explore the narrow streets of the Pink City. We go in the famous Palace of the Winds. Just a few decades ago, women from the Rajah family watched the festive processions and bustle on the main street, sitting behind these carved windows of bright red sandstone.
After enjoying sunset on top of the mountain overlooking the city, we head to the old movie theater for the latest Bollywood film. Indian cinema has changed a lot since our grandmothers!
Day 5 - 6
In the morning we leave for Agra by high-speed train (4 hours on the way). This city was the capital of the Mughal Empire even before Delhi! This superpower included the territory of almost all of modern India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and parts of Afghanistan. On rickshaws we will drive through the streets of Agra and see that the city has preserved a little from its former glory. But the main attraction of the country - the Taj Mahal is located here! ..
The greatness of this structure can not be conveyed by millions of photos and videos. It has to be seen with your own eyes! Shah Jahan built this marvel in 1653 to bury his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of this miracle took considerable 22 years! After the death of the ruler, his body was buried next to his wife.
Still impressed by what we have seen, we return by train to Delhi.
Next morning we say goodbye to India and fly home.
