Tour description

To see real Indonesia, one has to go beyond tourist traps of Bali. We will start in the cultural capital of Yogyakarta and world famous Borobudur and Prambanan complexes. Later, we experience Martian landscapes of Bromo and Ijen volcanoes, explore Sulawesi island, and swim in breathtaking waterfalls. We will also marvel at unique underwater world of Togean islands, and at stunning nature and famous landmarks of magical Bali.

Is this trip for you?

The trip is dynamic, of average difficulty. Expect long city walks, short 1-2-hour volcano climbs and an overnight ferry from Wakai to Gorontalo. We will also take several long daytime rides in hired minivans or off-road vehicles with lots of sightseeing on the way, as well as several speed boat rides. We will stay in simple hotels and bungalows on the beach, some will have Wi-Fi internet and hot water.

Price of the trip includes:

  • Four domestic flights: Yogyakarta – Surabaya, Denpasar – Makassar, Makassar – Luwuk, Gorontalo – Manado; 
  • All accommodation including twin and triple rooms in simple hotels and bungalows on the beach; 
  • All transportation including buses, boats, ferries, hired and public transport;
  • Food on Kadidiri island + breakfasts in some hotels; 
  • Professional guiding services.

 

To be paid separately:

  • Flight to Yogyakarta and back home from Manado; 
  • Medical insurance (mandatory); 
  • Entrance fees to temples, parks and other attractions ($120-200) and additional excursions on islands ($45);
  • Diving (from $28 per dive or PADI Open Water diving course including 5 dives, test and certification – $390); 
  • Snorkeling ($7-10 per day for snorkeling gear rent); 
  • Food ($8-18 per day).

Tour itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Yogyakarta - Indonesia’s cultural capital on Jawa island. Checking into an art hotel.

Day 2

We visit Prambanan, a complex of early medieval Hindu temples, and Borobudur, a 9th-century Buddhist stupa and temple complex, both close to Yogyakarta. Then we walk along authentic Muslim quarters of Yogyakarta and have dinner at an atmospheric local restaurant.

Day 3

We visit Kraton Palace, residence of Yogyakarta sultans, and explore Yogyakarta’s landmarks. We have dinner on one of the beaches out of the city, enjoying sunset.
