We will follow the W route in the Torres del Paine national park, which is known as one of the most scenic in the world.
We arrive in Buenos Aires - a city where everyone can see something familiar, from the business district which reminds Canary Wharf in London to the central areas which look exactly like the ones in Paris. The main attraction is the Colon Theater, one of the most famous opera houses in the world. Built back in 1857, it will surprise you with incredible interiors, immersing visitors in the atmosphere of the glamorous performances of the 19th century.
What is Buenos Aires without tango? We will watch the performances, learn about the history of this dance, and take a master class.
Have you tried the famous Argentinean asado - grilled beef steak? It is not only a delicious meal but a performance in itself. Less famous, but no less delicious, are other national dishes that we will try - spicy locro bean soup, meat in bread crumbs with vegetables milanese de carne and caramel dessert dulce de leche.
In the morning we fly to Ushuaia (3.5 hours flight). The capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego, it is known as the southernmost city in the world. We walk between brightly colored houses, admiring the snow-covered mountains, and the blue of the sky merging with the clear water of the Beagle Channel. In 1830, the famous naturalist Charles Darwin discovered this channel between the main island of Tierra del Fuego and the smaller ones. He used this way to circle South America on the ship named Beagle. We will take a boat trip along the strait, enjoying the same views as the famous explorers of the past and observing large colonies of Magellanic penguins and skipper penguins!
We walk on the Martial Glacier and drop postcards into the southernmost post box in the world. Any guesses on when will they arrive?
We fly to El Calafate (an hour and a half). This is the Argentine gateway to the fabulous Patagonia - the land of blue lakes, sharp peaks and mighty winds. We walk through a quiet tourist town, admire the Nimez lagoon with hundreds of different birds.
After lunch we take a bus to El Chalten - the favorite place of climbers in Patagonia (3 hours on the way). Here we will prepare for tomorrow's trekking, rent the necessary equipment, buy groceries and spend the night in the hotel.
In the morning we head to the Capri lagoon - a small lake opposite the incredible Fitz Roy mountain. After admiring the trek through the fabulous forest and views, we will reach the Poinsenot camp and set up tents there (about 3 hours on the way). For a few more hours we will walk to the stunning Piedras Blancas glacier and in the evening return to the camp to fall asleep as early as possible.
This trip is of average physical grade. Since we will hike for up to 20 kilometers a day, you will need to be in good physical shape. In Chilean Patagonia we will carry a minimum of our belongings (backpacks for up to 8-10 kg), while during trekking in the Argentine national park we will have to also carry our tents, food and utensils. We will move around by buses, take three domestic flights and ride public and private transport.
Accommodation during trekking involves staying five nights in tents. While not trekking we will stay in double (or triple rooms) in tourist class hotels. Most of them will have hot water and Wi-Fi internet.
